Many of the world’s most beloved seasonal traditions originate in Germany, such as the Christmas tree and the Advent calendar. For Germans, however, nothing compares to the unique atmosphere of an authentic old Christkindlmarkt in a traditional setting.
The history of the Munich Christmas markets dates back 600 years, and every year the medieval centre of town is transformed into a winter wonderland of charming stalls selling every variety of classic decoration and gift in a festive atmosphere with the scent of roasted almonds, chestnuts and hot spiced wine.
I will take you on a leisurely atmospheric stroll through the wonderful and authentic Munich markets situated around the historic “Old Town” (Altstadt) of Munich’s city center.
We will visit the central market on Marienplatz, the “crib market” offering nativity scenes and souvenirs, the lovely “Christmas village” in the palace courtyard of the royal Residenz (voted ‘most atmospheric Christmas Market in 2009!), and my favourite and the most popular market with the Munich locals, the “Medieval Market” in Wittesbacherplatz. Here we can end with a ‘Feuerzangenbowle’ if you wish : a hot fiery rum punch served in medieval clay goblets to warm up your feet and hands!
Tour Price: Euro 170.00 ( 2 – 2.5 hours). Glühwein or Eggnog drinks are optional and an additional extra cost. (approx euro 3.50 – 4.50 each).
